I apologize for the lack of posts on this page, the last few weeks have been exciting and busy!
This is now our last week of the Summer Program!! It was a blast of a summer and everyone has had such a great time. All of our field trips had outstanding attendance and our last few in town events went phenomenally. Our last two events are Trampolining at the Extreme Air Park in Calgary and Swimming in Olds on Thursday. Unfortunately and fortunately our Extreme Air Park trip is full and we are no longer taking registrations! This is very exciting! We are still taking registrations for the Swimming trip on Thursday though and we hope it'll be a great final swimming trip before we all go back to school. I'd like to thank everyone so much for making this such a great summer for the program and for myself. This summer we have had 203 people come on trips! (this is how many people came on each trip and some are repeat offenders). That doesn't include Thursday's swimming trip! Overall I have had a blast this summer hanging out with the wonderful kids of Crossfield and hope to be back next summer to do the same. If there is any other ideas for trips you or your kids may have for next summer please comment here or post on the Facebook page. I love to get recommendations from the kids that will be coming on the trips we plan, as we plan them to give the kids of Crossfield something awesome to do all summer long.

Today for swimming the bus leaves at 12:30 pm, please be at the arena at least 10 minutes before the bus leaves. We will arrive back at the arena at 3:30 pm.
Tonight is the Farmer's Market, come by and register your kids for next weeks events and the events for the rest of the summer. We will be going to Capture the Flag Paintball on Wednesday and Swimming in Olds again on Thursday. This week there will be no in town event on Monday due to the Monday being a holiday. Remember to register for these events ASAP as late registrations have been causing some miscommunication and confusion at the office. The ladies here already have a lot on their hands to keep this town happy and running so please try to make their jobs as easy as possible by registering by the Monday before each event. If you do register late (please try not to) message me (Chelsea) on Facebook to let me know before hand. Currently the number for Paintball is low, so make sure you ask your older kids if this is something they are interested in. The age requirement for this trip is 10 and up and there will be no leeway in this age requirement unlike some other trips. The Program guide says we will be playing carnival games at the farmer's market, due to the business of the Market we will not be doing it at this time and hope to reschedule it for a day sometime in the next few weeks. Hope to see lots of people tonight at the market and we are super excited for swimming today. Hope the kids are too. Tonight I will be at the Farmer's Market accepting registration for next weeks trips as well as for the rest of the summer. Make sure you stop by for a look or to ask any questions. We will have the Bouncy Castle up and running for free, so if you have kids that love to bounce bring them by while you do your Market shopping.
Next week we will be having a Water War at Banta Park on Monday from 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm. You can bring any water toys you want except for water balloons; not only are they bad for the environment and the wildlife, they are also bad for the splash park, we do not want to break something that costs so much and offers so much joy for the kids in and out of town. Wednesday we will be heading to the Innisfail Wildlife Park, this is a park that only accepts rescue animals. We are excited to check it out as it is very different from a zoo; offering animals a more open enclosure as well as keeping them active and engaged so they can lead a happier and better lifestyle than most zoo animals. There is the option to hold and feed certain animals as well as having your picture taken with the Beaver ($10) and the Bear ($20). Make sure you send extra change for feeders if you'd like your child to be able to do this. We may even get to see the bear paint or the wolves play some games. The Wildlife Park has a wide variety of rescued animals that I imagine the kids would love to meet, I know I'm super excited. The bus leaves at 9:10 am and arrive back at 4:15 pm. On Thursday we will again be doing public swimming in Olds. Bus picks up at 12:30 and arrives back at 3:30 pm. We have had a great outcome for these events and kids seem to be loving the program this summer. So remember to come register so you don't miss out on some awesome events and adventures. A reminder that Wednesday we will be going to LaserQuest and the to Southland Leisure Centre and Thursday we will be Swimming in Olds. Remember to register by 4:30 on Tuesday for these events. We have low number for Wednesday and are hoping to boost them up for the very generous LaserQuest who will be opening early for us even though we don't meet their required numbers.
If you are coming on Wednesday remember to bring a swimsuit and towel, lunch, comfortable clothes and shoes and clothes for after swimming. The bus leaves the Pete Knight Arena at 10:00 am and arrive back at 4:30 pm. Today we will be going swimming again at the Olds Aquatic Centre. The bus leaves the Arena at 12:30, we are still accepting registrations at the office until 11:45 and if you have registered your child for a previous or future trip and they want to come swimming today you can save yourself a trip into the office by giving me a call and sending $7 with your child to the bus. Remember to pack a swimsuit and towel and any other items your child may need for swimming. If you own a lock it may be an idea to send them with one if they have an valuables.
WOW! We just skyrocketed to 20 kids for Calaway Park. We are so very excited! Remember there is a chance of rain tomorrow so you need to read the following information:
Make sure you pack properly for the weather, wear warm clothes and pack some shorts and a t-shirt just in case it warms up. Wear a rain jacket and bring a towel and umbrella as well as a lunch or money for lunch. If you want to send your child with money for the candy store we will make time for them to go in there. Calaway park only closes 6 of their 33 rides when it rains unless there is lightening, so you may need to wipe down your seat with a towel (Please bring one if this is your plan) or bring a change of clothes for the end of the day. The worst thing that will happen is we come home a bit early, if this were to happen i would call all parents to let them know when we will be back. Please remember to send your kids with their Calaway Park pass so that they can get in and not have to pay the full price, otherwise we will have to charge you the extra $20 for the cost of their entry. See you all tomorrow morning at 9:00 am at the Pete Knight Arena, the bus leaves at 9 so please make sure you arrive a bit earlier to be signed in and allow us to leave on time. Remember to get your registrations in for Calaway Park and Swimming in Olds this week. We will be taking registration for these trips until the end of tomorrow (4:30pm). Right now we need at least 2 more kids to get our discount and not have to use passes we normally sell to the public, but this will not effect whether we will be going or not. We are hoping to push past the forecast for Wednesday as we are in Alberta and the weather always changes, just like it did today when we cancelled Capture the Flag. We are also hoping to get a few more registrations for both trips and all of our other trips this summer, they are filling nicely but there is room for more registrations. If your kids are registered for Calaway and if anything is to change I will call you by the end of the day tomorrow. My apologies for not having many pictures from Archery up yet, it was a busy week with 3 field trips and the farmer's market, I hope to get them up by Wednesday. We have received enough registration for Archery and Swimming this week to say they are officially going. Since this is the case we have decided to open registration for both events until Tuesday. If you were thinking about registering your child for these events but missed the deadline, make sure you come in Before 4:30 on Tuesday to register.
Next weeks trip is Calaway Park!! If you have a pass for the park the cost for your child to come on the trip will be $5, you must bring the pass on the trip though in order to get this price. We will also have another swimming trip next Thursday. We will be going swimming every Thursday from this week until August 25th. Registration for these events will close this Thursday, July 7th. As with this week, if we have large enough numbers on Thursday we will reopen registration, but do not take this as an excuse to register later, because if we do not have enough kids as of Thursday the trips may be cancelled. Remember today is the last day to sign up for Archery on the 6th. Monday will be the last day to register for our first swimming trip to Olds on the 7th. A reminder that the Town Office is not open on Friday as it is Canada Day!!
We will be at the Crossfield Farmers Market tonight taking registrations and answering any questions you may have. If you are coming to register a child keep in mind we only accept Cash and Cheque at the Market, you can come pay by debit or credit in the Town Office. We are hoping to receive a few more registrations for both events to make the a fun trip. As we stand now it is most likely Archery will be going, but we only have a few registrations for swimming and would absolutely hate to cancel, so make sure if your thinking about registering to come in and do it ASAP. Finally we will be showing Zootopia at the Community Hall today at 12:00pm. Concession will be open so remember to bring spare change. Nothing in our concession costs more than $1. Hope to see a good turn out at the Market tonight and I am very excited to be starting the Youth Program. |
Crossfield's Summer Recreation Program is here to provide fun summer activities and out of town trips for youth 8 and up. We hope to engage the youth in energetic and exciting events and give them a place to go during the summer months.
Registration can be done at the Town Office or Farmer's Market every Thursday. Deadline for registration is the Thursday before every event. |
